Quiet, Douglas Lima arrived at Bellator last year. And, after winning the welterweight Grand Prix with a knockout over Ben Saunders, he got the title shot in the division dominated by Ben Askren. Directly from the United States, where he’s been living for 12 years, the athlete from Goias affirmed he intends to finish the bout before the time ends.
“I’ll fight so it doesn’t go to the judges’ decision. I’ll finish it anyway”, said Douglas, complimenting his opponent, who has never been defeated.
“It’s a tough guy, a good wrestler, has a sharp ground game. He is improving at Muay Thai and I can’t overlook him. I’m really confident about my game and I’m training much Wrestling. I’ll bring this victory to Brazil”.
In case he wins, the fighter, who trains with Roan Jucao, Rafael Assuncao and Brian Stann, among others, knows it will be a big leap on his professional life.
“All athletes want to become champions, especially on the second biggest event on earth. It’s important for our career. Getting that belt I’ll score some points on the ranking, people will start to notice me, everything changes. Many doors will open and it’ll be a huge step in my career”.
Douglas also commented on his brother, Dhiego, who lost for the first time in January, at MFC 32.
“Her’s very strong mentaly. It’s not an excuse, but they’ve replaced his opponent really close to the fight. It was a striker and then came a wrestler, and he got confused. Losses teaches us and it will not be any different with him. Dhiego has a good mind, has come back to the trainings and will fight to erase that loss, like happens to everybody”. |
