With three wins in a roll on Brazilian MMA, Murilo Ninja is back to international rings against Jeremy May, on Impact FC, but he does not know much about his opponent. “I just had the opportunity to watch one of his fights and it was the one he lost on UFC’s reality show… He likes better the ground game and I’m training to keep the fight standing”, said the former champion of Pride, who spoke about the surgery his brother will be submitted, Maurício Shogun, talked about the possibility of signing with UFC and the duel between Shogun and Rashad Evans. “Shogun has a better ground game than him, Rashad has a good boxing, but Shogun is more complete and has a sharp Muay Thai”, affirms.
How is your training for your fight against Jeremy May, on July 18, in Australia going?
I’m training a lot the ground game with Simpson, Muay Thai’s part with the guys at the gym, like Glaube Feitosa and others good trainings… I’m fighting in several events and I want to make a good debut in Australia.
What do you know about his game?
I just had the opportunity to watch one of his fights and it was the one he lost on UFC’s reality show… He likes better the ground game and I’m training to keep the fight standing. Shogun had said that I was close to signing with UFC in case I win some more fights.
Did they get in touch?
There’s nothing concrete yet... First I have to worry about my fight and then I’ll think about Ultimate. This part I’ll let to my manager to deal with.
How is your brother’s recovery, after another knee surgery, going?
He’s doing everything that needs to be done for a good recovery, like physiotherapy, the postoperative have been done, so for sure he’ll be great when he fight against Rashad. He’s very talented, I’ve always said that when he’s well trained, he’s the best in the world.
Was this injury on the same knee he had problems in the past?
Exactly, on the same knee, but he has a great doctor and he’s taking good care of Maurício in Las Vegas. He’ll be back to defend his belt, for sure.
What are your expectations for his fight against Rashad?
I have high expectations. Shogun has a better ground game than him, Rashad has a good boxing, but Shogun is more complete and has a sharp Muay Thai. |
