Thiago “Pitbull” Alves is clear and direct: he wants revenge. Chosen to face Jon Fitch on UFC 111, that happens in the end of the month on United States, the tough guy wants the revenge of the defeat in 2006 and win a new combat against Georges St. Pierre, the champion of the weight. In interview to TATAME, “Pitbull” talked about the trains, the knee recovering, his evolution since the first fight against Fitch, the fight between GSP and and Dan Hardy, scheduled for the same night, and the sucess of Paulo Thiago on the category.
How are the trainings to the fight?
It’s pretty tough (laugh). Thank God, the train is heavy, everything is going well.
You had an injury and had to stop for a while. Who’s the knee?
Recovering was okay... I had to stop for a while to recover but I’m 100% again.
You’ll face Jon Fitch again, one of the few that could beat you on UFC. What’s the expectation to the revenge?
I’m really excited and prepared. I can’t wait for the time to come the fight. I’m waiting for this fight for about four years and now I have the revenge... I love revenges, it’s payback time.
How do you see your evolution since your fight with Fitch?
I think I was too young when we fought. Not on sport, but on UFC, this American system of weight lost... Now I’m a different fighter, I’ve learned a lot, I fight better Wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu... It couldn’t be a better time. I’m coming from a defeat and I want to be back to winner’s list. Beating him I’ll fight for the belt again.
So, you’re looking for two revenges?
I wanna get him and then get the belt, from whoever gots it. I think St. Pierre will win, but we never know. If it’s against Dan Hardy, we catch his belt, then I have the revenge with St. Pierre.
How do you think it’s going to be the fight between Georges St. Pierre and Dan Hardy?
St. Pierre has everything to win. He’s more complete, but we never know. I’m with St. Pierre on this fight.
A lot of people criticized the choice for Hardy to fight for the belt. Do you think he deserves or is it marketing?
I’m not here to judge. If he fights, congratulations. That’s the dream of every fighter on career, but if he doesn’t deserve, he won’t win, but he can say he was there. Congratulations to him.
For a long time you were the only Brazilian between the best of the world until 170 pounds on UFC. Now, Paulo Thiago is going to his fourth fight and he’s doing an excellent work. What do you think about him?
I think it’s very cool. Brazilians are warriors... I keep asking if I’m the only Brazilian with talent on this category... It’s awesome to have a country partner around.
UFC thought about a fight between you two last year...
It would be tough. He’s very though, but professional. I’m here to do my work and I’d go there to knockout. |
